KOLKATA, Dec 7: Describing the WTO agreement at the Bali Ministerial Meeting as historic, ASSOCHAM Secretary General D S Rawat said the deal reached after 159 trade ministers bolstered the leadership position of India among the developing nations. The credit also goes to Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma who fought for the rightful dues of farmers and poor of the entire developing world.
“While agreement on food security will ensure a fair deal for the subsistence farmers and the vulnerable sections in the developing countries, the deal on trade facilitation will improve efficiency at the international trade borders and reduce the transaction costs, particularly for the Indian exporters”, said Mr Rawat.
Mr Rawat congratulated Mr Sharma and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for standing firm in Bali to protect India’s core interests.
