Attack on CRPF camp in J&K interrupted trusting atmosphere: Sonia

NEW DELHI : Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said certain incidents and the recent terrorist attack on a  CRPF camp in Srinagar city had ”interrupted” a ”trusting  atmosphere” that was in the making in the Kashmir valley.

Speaking at the General Body Meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) here, the UPA Chairperson stressed  the need for taking note of the ”cry of pain and anguish”  emanating from some sections of society in Kashmir and  articulated the UPA government’s resolve to work for peace  and normalcy in the state in right earnest.

”…We should take note of the cry of pain and anguish  emanating from some sections of society there. We will continue  to work for peace and normalcy, and development in all regions  of the state in right earnest,” Mrs Gandhi said.

Highlighting the various steps taken by government for  restoration of normalcy in the valley and the successes  achieved in the past, the Congress President said ”remarkable progress” had been made in the recent past and economic developmnent had gathered pace.

The launch of rail services in the valley was an example of  how much infrastructure and connectivity had expanded.

She said a number of popular training and placement  programes for youth had been started and tourism had been  flourishing.

”A more trusting atmosphere was in the making until it was interrupted by certain incidents and the terrorist attack on  a CRPF camp,” Ms Gandhi added.
