SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the attack on a BSF convoy in Udhampur was a “worrying development” as the area had remained free from militancy for a long time.
“An attack on this stretch of the NH (National Highway) after a very long time. Worrying development because area was militant free,” Omar wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
In another tweet, Omar praised the bravery of the civilians who disarmed a militant and then later handed him over to the security forces.
“Very brave of the unarmed civilians to wrestle and disarm an armed terrorist. They should be suitably rewarded for this bravery,” he wrote on Twitter.
The opposition National Conference working president also said that those who, even after such an attack, think that “accord” between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed – a reference to the coalition between BJP and PDP in Jammu and Kashmir – was the best thing for the State, should “wake up and smell the coffee”.
“Anyone who still thinks that the Modi-Mufti accord is the best thing for J&K since sliced bread needs to wake up and smell the coffee,” he said.
