KATHUA, Sept 27: Major Toll evasion attempts were foiled at Toll Post, Lakhanpur and Minor Toll Posts. At Toll Post Lakhanpur driver of a vehicle bearing Registration Number HR 38AA-0785 approached the Import Assessment Counter and produced challan of goods loaded in the vehicle viz PP Fabric/printed books and telephone goods.
Accordingly, the Assessing officer assessed the goods, issued assessment slip to the driver, and put the vehicle to physical check. During the checking of the vehicle 13 bags weighing 621 Kgs of copper utensils concealed underneath, for which Toll Tax penalty to the tune of Rs.6831 was imposed and recovered under the provisions of J&K Levy of Tolls Act on account of wrong declaration and subsequently the vehicle was referred to State Taxes Department for further necessary action.A penalty amounting to the tune of Rs 3.66 lac was imposed and realized by State Taxes Department accordingly.
Similarly, another vehicle bearing No.PB35AE-5689 (Swift Dezire) evading toll on goods at minor Toll Posts, Peer Baba and Gandyal was chased and apprehended by Excise officials at Gandyal. The vehicle was found loaded with Cigarettes. Penalty of Rs.79,200/- was imposed and recovered from the defaulter for evading Toll and accordingly the said vehicle was also referred to State Taxes Department, Lakhanpur and a penalty amounting to the tune of Rs 4.06 lac was imposed and realized by them.
The whole operation was conducted by inspectors Varun Chandan, Narinder Gupta, sub-inspectors, Rajinder Paul, Rameez Mirza, Aqib Malik and Excise Guard, Nihal Singh under the direct supervision of ETOs Sandeep Gupta, Aamir Ayaiz Rather and over all supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur, Pardeep Singh Manhas.
M. Raju, Excise Commi-ssioner, J&K Government, lauded the efforts of team Lakhanpur and directed for more stringent monitoring and enforcement at Toll Post to thwart the evil designs of Toll Tax evaders/smugglers.
