New Delhi, Oct 10: With an objective to attain sustainability in the sector, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has commenced its second phase of environment lecture series on a virtual platform where experts will share their experience and learnings around BS-VI. The tri-lecture series aims to disseminate knowledge on the industry landscape concerning to BS-VI norms from a lens of policies, regulations, principles, concepts, design, technology, pollution prevention, and climate change. The lecture on Friday primarily focused on the key takeaways of the Indian auto industry with regards to BS-VI emissions norms mandated from April 1, 2020. It provided an overview of challenges and innovative solutions the industry developed during its journey towards migration to BS VI. The topics which were deliberated upon include key advancements of BS-VI emission norms in terms of Infrastructure, certification and technology, emission roadmap beyond 2020 and emission control devices, Bharat Stage ? VI Emission Standards in comparison to international standards, Vehicle Platform and engine emissions development and concurrent validation and functional verifications. The session focused on planning and execution and the need of having an affordable, safer and environmentally benign indigenous research solution. The panellists jointly agreed that for a cleaner environment and to regulate the output of air pollutants from the internal combustion engine and spark-ignition engine equipment, BS VI emissions is a huge step forward. SIAM Executive Director Prashant K Banerjee said “The Indian auto industry has worked dedicatedly in alliance with the government to implement BS-VI in the record time, thereby bringing Indian emission norms at par with the international standards. Further reinforcing our commitment SIAM, yet again, is happy to be able to provide a stage to bring the Industry stakeholders together.” Two additional Lecture focussing ‘Global perspective on Vehicular Emission & fuels’ and ‘Improvement of Air Quality in Indian Cities’ are scheduled for October 16 and 30 respectively, according to a statement here on Saturday.
