Srinagar, Mar 16: Authorities at Srinagar International Airport today asserted that the aviation activities at the airport will not result in the degradation of the environment and the same would be taken care of during the execution of the upcoming mega project.
In this regard, a public hearing was conducted at the airport for inviting questions, objections, and suggestions on the mega project worth Rs 1,500 crores for the construction of a new Terminal Building.
The officials said that the members of the public and various stakeholders joined the proceedings while Dr Nasir Ahmad Lone, ADM presided over the proceedings.
“The members of the public raised several questions on environment protection, pollution control, and job generation as a direct result of this project,” the officials said.
They said that all the questions were satisfactorily answered and the hearing was successfully concluded.
“We are sensitive to the welfare of our users and we will keep their concerns firmly in our mind both during execution and operation of the project,” Airport authorities said.
They underlined that aviation-related activities should not result in pollution or degradation of the environment.
The Regional Director, Pollution Control Board on the occasion made a significant observation that the Development should not be at the cost of pollution.
