Awarding Bharat Ratna

Sir,
It refers to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announcing ‘Bharat Ratna’ to Sachin Tendulkar despite opposition by some officials at Union Ministry for Home Affairs (MHA) to be conferred on forthcoming Republic Day 26th January 2014 along with renowned scientist CNR Rao. It is good that country’s highest civilian honour has not been misused to honour any politician, a trend observed previously when  a political-heavyweight (MG Ramchandran) was controversially honoured with Bharat Ratna just to get his party’s (AIIDMK) support to the then Union Government led by Rajiv Gandhi. In present political system based on self-interest, no politician can be practically and ideally fit to be even considered for Bharat Ratna. It is rather advisable if rules are modified to prohibit persons with political background being considered for Bharat Ratna, at least till wide-ranging reforms in the system are formulated so that only good people may be able to enter poll-fray!
There should be a high-level committee comprising of Vice President, Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader in Lok Sabha which should have a consensus choice for selection of Bharat Ratna awardee to avoid misuse for personal and political benefit like as mentioned above. President of India should have a veto-power to reject any selection made by such a high-powered committee.
Yours etc……
