Awareness camps organized as part of Road Safety Week

JAMMU, Jan 14: As a part of the ongoing 25th Road Safety Week celebrations, the Motor Vehicles Department today organized awareness camps for drivers and conductors at the Maheshpura Chowk and Jammu Railway Station.
The awareness camps were held in collaboration with Mini Bus Worker’s Union and Railway Station Taxi Operators Union.  Transport Commissioner, Saurabh Bhagat was the chief guest on the occasion.
During the awareness camps, officers and the officials of the Motor Vehicles Department and the traffic police informed the drivers and conductors about the importance of observance of Road Safety Rules and adherence to traffic norms to ensure safety on the roads.
The important factors like overloading, rash and negligent driving and over speeding were discussed.  Other traffic violations like route permit violations, wrong parking etc. were also discussed and the drivers and conductors were asked to observe the rules.
Pamphlets regarding do’s and don’ts while driving on roads were also distributed among the drivers and conductors.  The Transport Commissioner in his address sought the cooperation of transporters in spreading the message of Road Safety and in making the Road Safety Week meaningful.  He also stated that some of the problems that the Mini Bus and Taxi, Auto unions faced are being addressed by the department and the redressal of the same will shortly be made.
RTO Jammu Arvind Kotwal, Deputy Transport Commissioner, M.L. Raina, ARTO Jammu Kuldeep Singh, Motor Vehicle Inspector Sunil Cannie also informed the drivers and conductors on the various measures expected of them to make road safe.
The chairman of the Mini Bus Worker’s Union Anil Chopra highlighted some problems being faced by the Mini Bus Operators and sought the intervention of the Government in addressing the same. He especially made a mention of the revision of fares which are being pending for some time and also assured the officers of the Motor Vehicles Department and Traffic Police in observance of the traffic rules.
Davinder Chaudhary President Railway Station Taxi Operator Union also spoke about the necessity of the road safety awareness especially in view of the increase in vehicular traffic.  The camps were also attended by the representatives of the 2×2, 2×3 Bus Union and Auto Drivers Association.
