KARGIL, Aug 6: State Information Commissioner (SIC), Mohammad Ashraf Mir today underscored the need for organizing more awareness programmes about the knowledge of Right to Information (RTI) Act as he said that the awareness is imperative for effective implementation of law.
The SIC was interacting with the First Appellate Authorities (FAAs) and Public Information Officers (PIOs) during the RTI Act conference held at Conference Hall, Baroo Kargil.
The Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer LAHDC Kargil, Vikas Kundal, Secretary, State Information Commissioner, Ashok Kumar Pandita, SSP Kargil Tresing Gyalpo, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kargil, Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Assistant Director Information, DSP Headquarter and all the FAAs and PIOs attended the programme.
Highlighting the importance of organizing conference through power point presentation, the Information Commissioner said that all FAAs and PIOs must know all about the implementation of RTI Act and asked them to work with utmost dedication and respond the RTI applications within the stipulated time period provided under the Act.
He said every individual has the freedom to seek Government related information through this RTI Act. He said that RTI is one of the key legislations which guarantees the right and freedom of every citizen of India to seek the information related to Government dealings, both at Centre and the state.
On the occasion, FAAs and PIOs demanded organizing of awareness programmes with regard to RTI Act in colleges, panchayats and other institutions of the district Kargil. They demanded that during the awareness camps lectures should be given on local languages so that the maximum lot can be benefited with the Act.
Deputy Commissioner, Kargil hoped that the deliberations held in the conference would be successful and all FAAs and PIOs benefited. He also highlighted the importance of RTI in bringing transparency and accountability in Government departments.
