Awareness programme on Disaster Reduction held

JAMMU, Oct 13: A one day awareness programme on ‘International Day for Disaster Reduction’ was organized here today jointly by Acharya Shri Chander College of Nursing Education Jammu and varsity’s Nations Development Association (NDA) affiliated to NYKS under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Main purpose of the programme was to create awareness within the society for coordinating and implementing measures necessary for prevention of danger, threat, for mitigation or reduction of risk of any disaster, its severity, preparedness to deal with any disaster, prompt response to any threatening disaster situation, rescue and relief etc.
Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal ASCOMS Sidhra inaugurated the awareness programme yesterday.
Anita Pawar, Dy.SP, Dy. Controller Civil Defence, Jammu emphasized on the need to channelize efforts of students for creating an environment to inculcate awareness among masses for assessing the effects of disaster and rescue and relief thereof.
Principal Acharya Shri Chander College of Nursing Education, Sidhra, Dr. Indra Moza asserted for developing the culture of disaster preparedness among people across the Indian Himalayan Region for mitigation or reduction of risk of any disaster or its severity.
Sushil Singh Charak, Permjit Kumar, Chief Warden Civil Defence Jammu and others also spoke on the occasion.
A quiz competition was also held between GNM and B.Sc Nursing students.
