UDHAMPUR, Aug 23: The Army Wives Welfare Organization (AWWA), Northern Command today celebrated its 49th Raising Day.
Functions to mark the occasion were held at almost all the major military stations in the State with the main function being held at Udhampur.
Raised in 1966 AWWA, has evolved as one of the largest registered NGO of the country. The organization has been rendering yeomen service in the fields of societal obligation, social empowerment and skill building.
The celebrations under the overall theme of “UDAAN” were marked by various competitions for members as also conduct of medical check up for wives of JCOs/Ors. Lecture on Stress Management by Sehaj Yoga & Meditation was conducted for all the families. Keeping in view the increase in offence against women & children, a need was felt to sensitize families on “Nari Suraksha”. A lecture was organized in which participants were made aware of the prevailing safety concerns related to women and child including aspects of self defence.
The Veer Naris (widow of martyrs) were given special focus during the celebrations and were also felicitated. The Regional Presidents Awards were conferred on selected ladies for their outstanding contribution to the organization during the year.
In her message to the members, Rashmi Hooda, Regional President AWWA, reiterated the overall theme of AWWA of “Asha, Vishwas and Aastha” and exhorted the fraternity to contribute and support Nation building and undertake activities that not only enable the organization to achieve its goals but also impact positively on society and nation at large.
To this end, she said the organization must establish itself as an interface with other NGOs in the region and extend help and support when required. Sharing her vision for the future of the organization, Mrs Hooda said that the organization “must create self sustainable and economically viable projects that generate employment” for the beneficiaries.
