Ayurveda can become world leader in providing alternate health care: Dir ISM

JAMMU, Feb 17: Director ISM J&K Dr Mohan Singh today expressed hope that the Ayurveda with divine healing properties can become a world leader in providing alternate health care to the people.
“Ayurveda is perceived as one of the most ancient and well documented system of medicine equally relevant in modern times and its holistic approach whether for healthy individuals or for diseased ones remains unparalleled,” said Dr Mohan Singh while speaking at a function organized in collaboration with Ayurvedic Uthan Mandal, in the premises of Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu.
Attending the function as chief guest, Dr Singh stressed on reducing the burden of disease and related morbidity and mortality by utilizing the potential of Ayurveda and exploring the potential of Ayurveda to contribute towards National Health Policy & National Health programmes.
Principal, Government Ayurvedic Medical College (GAMC), Jammu Dr Shashi Sudhan, who attended the function as chief guest, informed that the Government Ayurvedic Medical College has been upgraded to 63 seats from the current 50 seats and will be shifted to Akhnoor- from the makeshift arrangement at Government Ayurvedic Hospital at the earliest.
Dr Rakesh Raina, Assistant Director, Directorate of ISM, informed that 194 AYUSH Health WCs are being established by upgrading the existing ISM Dispensaries wherein comprehensive AYUSH health care will be provided to the patients.
He further added that four 50 bedded AYUSH Integrated Hospitals are being established at Kathua, Kishtwar, Kulgam and Kupwara and three more to be established at Samba, Anantnag and Bandipora are in pipeline.
Dr Vandana Dogra, Medical Superintendant Govt Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu in her speech highlighted the role of Ayurveda in tackling the chronic lifestyle disorders.
Secretary Ayurveda Uthan Mandal Dr Taran Singh highlighted the role of Ayurveda in providing relief to the people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Deputy Medical Superintendant, Govt Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu Dr Aruna Bhat, Dr Sajad Hussain Shuja Assistant Director Unani, Dr Rajneesh Sharma and Dr Mahesh Sharma were also present on the occasion.
