Azad announces Rs 240 crore for better health facilities in J&K

JAMMU: Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad today announced Rs 240 crore for better health facilities in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We want to see Jammu and Kashmir a developed state and government is keen in providing better health facilities to the people of the state,” Mr Azad said while addressing a public rally after paying tributes to the martyrs in Kathua district.
The Union Minister, however, announced Rs 90 crore (Rs 45 crore each) for Cancer Centers in Jammu and Kashmir regions and also announced Rs 150 crore under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scheme.
Mr Azad said special focus will also be laid to provide health facilities to the Gujjars and Bakkerwals and mobile centres will also be introduced in the remote belts of hilly regions for the community so that they get treated in a better way when they shift to plains in peak winters.
Meanwhile, without naming Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on Article 370, Mr Azad said, “the leadership in Jammu and Kashmir must concentrate on development of the state rather than indulging “directly” or “indirectly” into controversies.”
He said some leaders visit the state and issue such statements, which rakes up ‘unwanted’ controversies but the seasoned leaders must not react and should focus on the development of the region.
He asked the state government to complete all pending projects before elections.
The Congress stalwart also cleared the decks for senior leader and Member Parliament Choudhary Lal Singh asserting that he will be the candidate from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Constituency in the coming Parliamentary elections.
“I will not be contesting from this constituency but your leader Lal Singh will again be the candidate from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda in the Parliamentary polls,” said Mr Azad.
