JAMMU, Mar 25: Strange it may sound that Shameem Azad, wife of Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Congress candidate for Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat, Ghulam Nabi Azad is more rich than her husband—both in terms of movable and immovable assets.
Mrs Azad’s profession has been shown as `Social Service’ in the affidavit filed by Mr Azad before the Returning Officer in Kathua today. She has Rs 1.49 crores worth cash in various Bank accounts in New Delhi including Rs 5 lakh in hand while Mr Azad has only Rs 57.92 lakh worth cash in hand and money in bank accounts.
Sofiya Azad, daughter of Mr Azad has Rs 16.05 lakh worth savings in the banks. Shameem Azad has 350 grams gold valued at Rs 10.26 lakh.
Again Mrs Azad has Rs 1.20 crores worth immovable property as against Rs 70 lakhs of her husband.
Mr Azad has 9486.41 square meters agriculture land at Washim in district Vidharba at Maharashtra, which he had purchased by three sale deeds on July 5, 1994. The current market value of the land has been shown as Rs 70 lakhs.
Mrs Azad owned a residential house along with land apartments at Hyderpora, Bye-Pass, Srinagar and another residential flat B-451 at New Friends Colony, New Delhi.
In his income tax return for 2012-13, Mr Azad has shown his income as Rs 8.21 lakh while his wife has shown an income of Rs 7.23 lakh and their daughter as Rs 6.01 lakh.
Almost similar is the case of the wife of Anil Gupta, son of BJP rebel Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, the JKDF candidate from Udhampur-Doda Parliament seat. While Mrs Gupta, who has been shown as housewife in the affidavit, owned Rs 1.92 crores worth immovable assets, Mr Gupta, a businessman, himself has Rs 46.25 lakh worth immovable assets.
Mr Gupta has investments in various banks, insurance policies and fleet of cars valued at Rs 1.85 crores while his wife has similar investments including 552 grams worth gold having total value of Rs 72.90 lakh. His two children have investments to the tune of Rs 9.08 lakh and Rs 9.7 lakh respectively.
Mr Gupta owned four cars including an Innova, Mahindra Jeep, Mahindra Bolero and Honda City while his wife has Chevrolet and i10.
Mr Gupta has one kanal and 5 marlas land at Channi Kamala valued at Rs 46.25 lakh while his wife has 27 kanals land at Sunjwan and 10 marlas at Deeli valued at Rs 1.92 crores.
PDP contestant Arshad Malik has Rs 49.26 lakh worth immovable assets and Rs 12.16 lakh worth investments in banks.
NPP supremo Prof Bhim Singh appeared to be among the poorest candidates with just Rs 11.07 lakh worth investments as movable property and Rs 27.88 lakh worth immovable assets.
Prof Singh also owned a 1975 model motorcycle, which he had purchased for Rs 7000. However, he has shown in the affidavit that this motorcycle is now out of order. He also owned a Tempo Traveler No. JK02AC 0073 worth Rs 7 lakh, whom he has named as ‘Bhim Rath’. He has 1993 model Ambassador car worth Rs 3.5 lakh.
