JAMMU, Oct 7: Former J&K Chief Minister and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad would address members of the Backward Classes in a State level convention of the community being held at Shaheedi Park Pulwama in Kashmir on October 13.
Addressing a press conference here today, general secretary All India Backward Classes Union (Social), Prof Kali Dass, disclosed that a grand one day convention was being held at Pulwama on October 13 under the leadership of Abdul Majid Malik (president). Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has consented to be the chief guest of the function.
Besdies Mr Azad, National Chairman of the Union, P C Patanjali from Delhi will be the guest of honour. The leaders of the Union would project the major issues of the community. It will be strongly projected that BCs in the State may be provided 27% reservation as per the Mandal Commission recommendations. It is unfortunate that just 2% reservation is being provided by the State Government till today.
It was also demanded that OBCs need only one certificate on the name of OBC instead of OSC. In view of the creamy layer, OBC/OCS certificates should be renewed on the basis of income certificates as caste of a person does not change every year. The Government should also enhance the income limit for the creamy layer for scholarships to the OBC students. It was stressed upon to provide representation in the Upper and Lower House of the State Assembly to the community.
