Azad’s party releases list of 13 candidates for Assembly polls

Saroori’s name missing, may get Cong ticket

Jugal likely to contest from Katra, Taj from Uri as Ind

JAMMU, Aug 25: While Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) today released first list of 13 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, the name of Azad’s close aide and loyalists, Ghulam Mohd Saroori and Jugal Kishore Sharma are missing.

Sources said that GM Saroori is likely to get Congress ticket from Inderwal Constituency of Kishtwar district while former Minister and another Azad’s close aide, Taj Mohiuddin may contest from Uri as Congress or Independent candidate.
A close associate of Saroori said that they were in touch with the top Congress leaders and if Congress denies ticket to Saroori on Monday, he will contest as Independent candidate from his stronghold- Inderwal constituency.
While Taj Mohiuddin left DPAP about a week ago, but due to poor response from Congress he could not join. He now has made up his mind to contest as Independent candidate from Uri constituency against NC candidate, Mohd Shafi Uri’s son.
The name of Jugal Kishore Sharma is also missing in the list, but sources in the party said that he has already conveyed to the party Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad not to contest elections. Party general secretary R S Chib said that Jugal has not cleared his mind till now. He is very much in the party and moreover, this is first list. The second list is yet to be released by the party.
Jugal Kishore Sharma when contacted said he has already conveyed his mind to the party Chairman stating that he was unable to contest on DPAP mandate. Replying to a question, Jugal said,” My options are open, I am a free bird and may contest on the mandate of some other party or as an Independent candidate from Katra, Reasi or Udhampur West seat. I have two-three options available, and the picture will be clear within couple of days,” Jugal added.
The list of 13 DPAP candidates was today released by Party general secretary (Org), RS Chib on the approval of party Chairman, Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Former Minister Abdul Majid Wani will contest elections from Doda East against NC’s Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy, former MLA Mohd Amin Bhat from Devsar (North Kashmir), former Advocate General Mohd Aslam Goni from Bhaderwah, Adv Saleem Parray (DDC Member) from Dooru, Muneer Ahmed from Lolab and DDC Member Bilal Ahmed Deva from Anantnag West,
DPAP’s Ghulam Nabi Wani will contest from Rajpora (Nellora) seat, Mir Altaf Hussain from Anantnag, Qaiser Sultan Ganai ( Jin) from Ganderbal, Ghulam Nabi Bhat from Eidgah, Amir Ahmed Bhat from Khanyar, Nisar Ahmed Lone from Gurez and Peer Bilal Ahmed from Hazratbal constituency.
