B L Saraf delivers guest lecture at JU Law School

JAMMU, Oct 11: B L Saraf, Retired District & Session Judge, delivered a lecture on “Inquest Proceedings” to the students of the Law School, University of Jammu.
Saraf apprised students of the relevant provisions of law dealing with inquest proceedings, which are prelude to the investigation and are done when there is no clear proof or evidence relating to the crime committed and evidence is proceeded on presumptions.
He informed about the role of police and the Executive Magistrate, which involve duty of the police officer to take custody of the dead body and get the post mortem conducted and the same is to be done in presence of two reputed witnesses like Lambardar, Sarpanch etc. of that locality. Police officer will submit a report to the Executive Magistrate of the inquest proceedings and the same will be used as corroborative evidence during trial, he added.
Dr Sanjay Gupta, Director of the Law School presented welcome address while Dr Monica Narang presented vote of thanks.
