Baba’s day out for justice

Rajan Gandhi
Navigating the many roads in Delhi named after truth, justice and peace – Satya Marg, Nyay Marg, Shanti Path – anyone can assume India to be country of integrity, honesty and spiritualism – country of God men, but the stark reality is quite the opposite- India has become a banana country with mango people – country of thugs, dhongi babas, rapists, fraudsters. Every week there is a judgment on one or other so called famous personalities and it seems it has now become fashion to be in jail .What happened yesterday at Panchkula and other parts of Northern India cannot be described in any way as country on the road to superpower, but who cares.
Asaram, Rampal, Nityanand, Chandraswami , now Ram Rahim and the list goes on and on ,it’s really amazing how these so called babas are able to befool millions of people and on one call of these thugs people are ready to sacrifice their lives. Answer is simple – People always look for something to believe in and these god men take advantage of it with their tricks. When a person seeks solace in babas, he transfers his entire mental burden upon them. He is deluded into believing that a supernatural power is taking care of his responsibilities and helping him. If by chance any good happens in his life, he takes it as a blessing from the baba and becomes devoted to him for life. People are always intrigued by ‘miracles’. The craft of performing miracles has helped the baba business flourish across villages and metros. Humans have an innate curiosity for magic. When a sleight of hand is presented in connection with religion or god, it sways people easily. The most dangerous for society are these god men who have managed to deceive millions of people for years by captivating their minds. The first meeting with these god men usually casts a pleasant impression. It is nothing but a psychological illusion. It is similar to a patriotic film rousing patriotic feelings in someone. This is what happens in the ashrams too. When thousands around you are singing someone’s praises, one is bound to get affected. Ironically, a section of our society which is the least educated, lives under the harshest conditions and barely manages their daily bread, is the furthest from these gurus.
A close scrutiny of the network of these ‘holy men’ who have come to personify the ideas of religion, yoga, meditation and sometimes even god, reveals that they work in a planned manner. First they attract people using their ‘godliness’ and eventually make them life-long followers. These followers then become dependent on the god men who use them to further their own interests. When you are in trouble or under stress, you are unable to think clearly. People start looking for instant solutions and they get drawn to the fake promises of these god men. Presenting saints as a panacea to all ills has become an industry – television does the job of ensuring that people get to know them. Channels are paid to telecast their sermons and assemblies. One can often find people sharing their personal experiences of how a baba’s blessings helped them prosper. These influence others in need. Social and economic security also makes people susceptible to the influence of babas. People fear losing what they possess and the current cut-throat economy has increased this fear otherwise how can one explains Nirmal Baba making crores of rupees just by giving advice as absurd as eating samosas with green chutney instead of red. God men utter these recommendations with such confidence that people believe them to be genuine. A crowd of a thousand people attending these samagams influences the people watching them on TV.
There is nothing like the baba business today  – low start-up cost, minimal investment, and you don’t even have to have to shave in the morning! Sweetest part of this cake is all political parties making a beeline to get support of these babas to win elections. As said by chief election commissioner, for politicians to win elections is the ultimate aim, how and at what cost is immaterial. All these babas thought they were invincible until the law caught up with them and looking at the charges of rape, murder, dacoity and even treason in some cases one wonders what are our governments up to. Turning blind eye to all their activities and in the end uttering one liner, law will take its own course, has become the routine. There are approximately nine thousand deras in Punjab and Haryana only. The recent developments at Panchkula and other places where everyone was predicting for the last one week for something serious going to happen, even high Court casting serious doubts over the intentions of the government and what the Haryana Government did was applied section 144 but not for blind bhakts or how can a lakh of people assemble at one place with 144 in place is beyond anyone’s explanation, kept army on standby but not to intervene. One is shocked to see even policemen running for their lives and the government was claiming situation under control and patting their own back for out of alleged  crores of followers of Ram Rahim only one lakh were able to reach Panchkula , rest were prevented-big achievement isn’t it. High court intervened, media raised the pitch – something serious is going to happen but government politely requested people to leave Panchkula in free buses but bhakts had no decency, how the government is responsible now. Babaji arrived as promised with a kafila of vehicles which even our Prime Minister doesn’t travel like , out of few lakhs only 31 are dead , rest all have reached their hideouts safely, isn’t it a great achievement of law and order and icing on the cake – Babaji  was taken safely without any accident in a VVIP helicopter to a special cell made exclusively for him .As per twitter government -violence was  unfortunate, initiated by  antisocial elements on behalf of opposition and its mockery that government was caught napping once again as was in the case of jat agitation .
We stage candle light protests to pressurize law and order agencies to get hold of the rapists and we also manage loot, arson and what not on conviction of one such rapist. The agony of residents of Panchkula cannot be felt by our leaders sitting in their air conditioned offices and tweeting and one hope’s next time court gives order for presence of CM of the state along with the cabinet to be present to ensure safety of public. Irreparable damage has been done to country’s image and all of us should be ashamed of what has happened – yes we the people only for we get the leaders, what we vote for, we deserve them.
