SRINAGAR, Sept 10 : A group of 20 students from the Bandipore district, back from their visit to various places of educational, historical and cultural importance in Rajasthan, met N N Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today and shared with him their experiences during this tour.
The students were accompanied by Col Vinod Singh Negi, Commanding Officer, 14 RR, Maj Vikas Repswal and other Army personnel who had accompanied the students on the tour.
The 12-day educational tour was organized by the Army’s 14 RR under the Sadbhavana Programme, which had been flagged-off from Bandipore on 30th August and concluded today.
Interacting with the students, the Governor enquired from them about the places they had visited during the tour and those which they had liked the most. All the students said that it was an excellent opportunity for them to have been given the opportunity of visiting various places of educational, historical and cultural interest. He also enquired from the students the careers they wished to pursue. For most of the students, studying in classes 9th and 11th, it was their first ever visit outside the State.
The Governor emphasized upon the students to work hard and achieve excellence in academics and other extra-curricular activities to build a promising future for themselves and to contribute meaningfully towards the development and prosperity of their State and the country.
The Governor observed that during future visits, if possible, the students should be provided the opportunity of also visiting an Air Base. He asked Col Negi, Commanding Officer, 14 RR, to provide each student a photo album with a brief write-up giving details of the various historical places and monuments they had visited, to further broaden their knowledge.
The Governor presented gifts to the students and wished them a bright future ahead.
A memento was presented to the Governor by the Commanding Officer 14 RR, on this occasion.
During their visit to Rajasthan, the students visited Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Bikaner and Jaisalmer. At Jaipur, the touring students called on Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, and visited Amer Fort, Nargarh Fort, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal; while at Jodhpur, they visited Merangarh Fort, Umed Palace and Air Defence equipment display. At Ajmer, they paid obeisance at Ajmer Sharief Dargah and interacted with the students of Military School, Ajmer. At Jaisalmer, they paid a visit to Jaisalmer Fort and Museum and had a camel ride. Similarly, at Bikaner, the touring students visited Museum and other places of historical and cultural interest.
