Backward Classes Commission just an eyewash: AIBCU

JAMMU, June 21: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU), J&K has alleged that current Backward Classes Commission set up to grant reservation to OBCs in Panchayats, Municipalities, Municipal Corporations, BDCs and DDCs was just an eyewash to befool the OBCs,
In an executive committee meeting of the Union held under the chairmanship of it’s senior vice president Rajinder Sikka, the matter of setting up of a short lived designate Backward Classes Commission for providing reservation to OBCs in Panchayats, Municipalities, Municipal Corporations, BDCs and DDCs, was discussed and the speakers concluded that this designated commission is an eye wash to befool the OBCs as the Govt has yet not grant 27% due share of OBCs in J&K.
“This Commission is just like the Govt circular dated 02.03.2024 issued by the Social Welfare Department of J&K Govt which was regarding the survey of OBC castes to all DCs to send survey report on or before 04.06.2024 whereas March 2 was Saturday, March 3 Sunday and report was required on Monday under all circumstances, a task which even God couldn’t do within three days,” Sikka added.
How Govt can justify the provision of providing reservation to OBCs in Local Bodies without granting 27% due share of OBCs, he asked.
Govt has granted 8% quota to OBCs by adding some more castes into the OBC list.
Where reservation quota is only 8% , then the reservation in local bodies would only be 8%. For that there is no need of any short lived commission. Govt must provide 27% reservation to OBCs of J&K UT it wants to do justice with OBCs, Sikka claimed.
Union said that the main demand of OBCs is the caste based census, which is the only solution for ameliorating the problems of the OBCs.
Prominent among other present in the meeting included- Gurmeet Singh, SC Verma, Jagdish Raj, Madan Lal, Kewal Krishan Fotra, Ashiq Hussain Hajam, Prem Bhogal, Mohd Rashid Mughal, Farooq Inqlabi, Ab Razaq Qureshi and others.
