JAMMU, Feb 25 : Prof. I. A. Hamal, Vice Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri, called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan, here today.
During the meeting, the Governor and Prof. Hamal discussed various initiatives being taken by the J&K Universities Forum for forging mutually beneficial collaborations with the larger objective of improving quality of higher education and securing speedy economic development of the State.
Various possible areas of collaboration and the modalities for maximizing the benefits to be drawn from the available funds, infrastructure and human resources for advancing the interests of the students and the State at large were also discussed during the meeting.
Prof. Hamal briefed the Governor about the functioning of the University, particularly the status of various ongoing research projects.
Meanwhile, a deputation from Turtuk in Nubra area of Ladakh region called on Mr. Vohra and presented to him a memorandum of their demands.
The demands presented by the 5-member deputation led by Abdul Ali, Councillor, Turtuk, LAHDC, Leh, included opening of Turtuk-Khapulu cross-LoC road, speedy completion of Turtuk-Hanu road, creation of a rural development block and establishment of a J&K Bank branch at Turtuk.
Other demands projected by the deputation included, upgradation of Primary Health Centre at Turtuk to the Community Health Centre level and a special recruitment drive for the youth of the area to gain employment.
The Governor discussed with the deputationists issues about the functioning of health and educational institutions, advancement of tourism and the production and marketing of apricot in Turtuk area. He heard the deputationists patiently and assured that the demands raised by them would be taken up with the concerned authorities at the Centre and in the State Government.
The deputation comprised Haji Abdullah, Sarpanch Turtuk, Ghulam Hussain, Ghulam Mehdi and Ghulam Hyder.
Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, was present on the occasion.
