JAMMU, Mar 31: Chinar Power Project Workers Union (CPPWU) today alleged that the workers of Baglihar Hydraulic Electric Project Chanderkote have been deprived of all facilities admissible under Labour laws by the management.
The Labour laws are totally being violated by the management of M/S Jayparkash Industries Ltd and the workers have not been provided the safety equipments and the accommodation, Joginder Bhandari, chairman of the Union told reporters here today.
He said the workers are suffering badly and the management of the JP Industries has let lose a reign of terror. The workers are harassed when they put forth their demands before the management, he added.
Expressing serious concern over the step motherly treatment with the workers by the management, Bhandari said it is unfortunate that Assistant Labour Commissioner Ramban never bothered to visit the work sites neither listen to the general problems of the employees.
He said the workers in Chenani-Nashri four lane tunnel are being paid Rs 276 for eight hours with all facilities like free mess, project incentive, free medical check up, safety equipments and mineral water for drinking and their clothes are washed in laundry free of cost. In comparison to that in Bhaglihar Project the workers are paid Rs 150 for eight hours with no other facilities, which is a total injustice, he added.
He also alleged that one self styled trade union leader has misled the retrenched workers from Dul Hasti and Baglihar projects and collected Rs One crore and sixty five lac from them. Besides he has also embezzled crores of rupees out of the Union fund which needs a thorough probe through Crime Branch.
He said Rs 62 per day per labour goes in the account of brother of this self styled leader from Baglihar Project and many work orders have been allotted in the name of his brother in the Project.
Mohammed Khalil Tapal, general secretary of the Union criticized the chairman of Chenab Valley Power Project for making back door appointments in CVPPPL from outside the State by ignoring the local unemployed youth from district Kishtwar.
