JAMMU, Sept 24: Bahadur Singh Visual Art Gallery at Panjtirthi has reopened its doors for public at the 7th Kunwar Viyogi Utsav, held here today.
Visual artist of national and international acclaim Sohan Singh Billawria who has mastered ancient Dogra Basohli Art showcased this heritage art form at the gallery.
Some of the artists’ latest works graced the walls of the gallery, amongst which included, the ‘Krishna Leela’, Ganesha and Kings and Queens at the Indian durbar. The art show was curated by Rashmi Jamwal, an artist of international repute.
“Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust is preparing to make a significant contribution to the realm of visual arts. We are dedicated to promote folk, modern and contemporary arts and artists at all times. Independent artists working in various mediums will be constantly inspired and encouraged for their work through such a diversity of art activities. The Visual Art Gallery will create a bridge between artists and art lovers, as well as a better approach to link the general public to modern art,” said Rashmi Jamwal.
She stressed that the Trust will always support artists who have made art their life’s work and who continue to make significant contributions to the area of art.
A handout stated that Bahadur Singh Visual Art Gallery will contribute to contemporary, tribal arts and crafts processes, interrelation with other institutions, galleries and will encourage cultural dialogues, critical inquiry and interdisciplinary collaborations, in addition to its optimistic due diligence projects in the region of architecture and design.
On Sunday, the Trust will host Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Lecture 2022. Major General Goverdhan Singh Jamwal (Retd.) will give a lecture on ‘Truth about Invasion of the Valley and the Saviour of Kashmir’.
He will also be honoured with the Kunwar Viyogi Shaurya Samaan at the event.
Meanwhile, Dogri sensation Sonali Dogra will pay tribute to Kunwar Viyogi at the event by singing a few songs penned by the Sahitya Akademi Awardee.
