Baig worth Rs 20 cr, richest among Baramulla contestants

Srinagar, Apr 19: Former Deputy Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate from Baramulla constituency, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, is the richest among 18 candidates, who have filed nominations from Baramulla constituency that goes to polls on May 7.
Baig’s affidavit revealed that he has moveable and immovable property worth Rs 20 crore. He has movable assets worth Rs 3.57 crore which include Rs 1.5 lakh cash in hand, bank deposits amounting to Rs 2.69 crore, his car worth Rs 2 lakh, his spouse’s car worth Rs 25 lakh, his two Kashmiri shawls worth Rs 8 lakh and his spouse’s gold, jewellery and Kashmiri shawls worth Rs 55 lakh.
Details disclosed  that Baig owns immovable assets worth Rs 16.46 crores. It includes Commercial building at Rajbagh worth Rs 40 lakh, residential house at Brain, Nishat worth Rs 2.52 crores and land worth Rs 13. 5 crore. He has a loan of Rs 1.1 crore against the FDRs.
In his last affidavit filed before Returning Officer of the Baramulla Assembly constituency in 2008, Baig has shown his moveable assets worth around Rs 3 crore. The assets included Rs 70, 000 cash, Rs 1.58 crore bank deposits, Rs 45, 000 bank deposits of his spouse, Rs 5 lakh gold and jewellery of his spouse and four cars whose value had not been mentioned.
Details of Baig’s immovable assets in 2008 included Rs 3 crore worth residential house at Brain, Srinagar. However, the value of the other assets shown in the affidavit had not been mentioned.
An Independent candidate Aga Syed Abdul Hussain Mosvi is the second richest candidate after Baig. He has shown moveable and immovable property worth over Rs 12 crore in his affidavit which he filed today.
Aga has moveable property amounting to Rs 17 lakhs, including Rs 65, 000 cash, deposits amounting to Rs 5.2 lakh and four cars worth Rs 11. 5 lakh; his spouse has moveable property worth Rs 7.2 lakh and his dependant Rs 80, 000.
Aga’s immovable assets are worth Rs 2 crore, his spouse has Rs 9.5 crore and his dependent Rs 55 lakh.
The MLA Langate, Sheikh Abdul Rashid has shown his property worth Rs 23 lakh. He has moveable property worth Rs 1.01 lakh including Rs 50, 000 cash, Rs 1000 Bank deposits, Rs 50, 000 worth car. He has immovable property worth Rs 22 lakh which he has purchased last year in October.  He has also shown liability of Rs 8 lakh as he has taken loans worth Rs 4.33 lakh.
In his last affidavit filed in 2008 when Sheikh contested Assembly elections from Langate constituency of Kupwara, he had shown property worth Rs 9 lakh. The property includes Rs 25, 000 cash, Rs 500 deposits, Rs 2.5 lakh agriculture land and Rs 6 lakh worth house including land on which it was built.
It may be mentioned here that NC candidate, Sharifudin Shariq, has net worth of Rs 3.5 crore.
