Bail denied to cop in graft case

JAMMU, Mar 11: Additional Sessions Judge Anticorruption Jammu OP Bhagat has rejected the bail application of Mohd Sultan, Munshi in Police Post Chinore, who was caught red-handed by the ACB while demanding and accepting bribe money of Rs 4000.
After hearing Advocate ZN Sheikh for the applicant whereas APP Anoop Kumar for the ACB, the court observed, “allegations leveled against the accused are heinous and grave, he was caught red handed on 02-03-2023 in presence of independent witnesses while accepting bribe of Rs 4000 from the complainant inside the premises of Police Post Chinore Jammu which was recovered from the possession of accused public servant”.
“Since investigation is still under way, it may not be proper for this court to frame an opinion at this stage as to whether the case of the prosecution is false or baseless. Until the final police report is made available, it cannot be said that allegations leveled against the accused are prima-facie untrue”, the court said, adding “at this stage petitioner has not made out a case for his enlargement on bail, therefore, bail application is dismissed.
