Bail denied to drug peddlers

JAMMU, Dec 24: 1st Additional Sessions Judge Jammu MA Chowdhary today rejected bail applications in two separate NDPSA cases.
While rejecting the bail applications of Lakchhman Kumar Tandon, son of Hari Dass Tandon of Chhatisgarh and Sahil Sharma, who were booked by different police stations for allegedly smuggling ganja, the court observed, “drug addiction causes immense human distress and the illegal production and distribution of drugs have spawned crime and violence worldwide”.
“No part of the world is free from the curse of drug trafficking and drug addiction. Millions of drug addicts, all over the world, are leading miserable lives, between life and death. Drug abuse is a complex phenomenon, which has various social, cultural, biological, geographical, historical and economic aspects”, the court said, adding “drug abuse has led to a detrimental impact on the society. It has led to increase in the crime rate”.
“This deadly menace, a major problem of the society, requires to be checked through strengthening the reinforcement”, the court said.
