Bailed man dies at CHC Batote, DM orders probe

RAMBAN, Feb 19: Following death of a man admitted by Police at CHC Batote on Tuesday for treatment, District Magistrate Ramban, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary today ordered Magisterial Inquiry into causes and circumstances leading to the death.

Earlier, District Magistrate Ramban had received a communication from the office of Senior Superintendent of Police, Ramban in this regard.
As per the order by District Magistrate Ramban, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Banihal, Rizwan Asgar is appointed as inquiry officer to conduct the discrete inquiry into the matter leading to the death of Mohammad Abid, son of Mohd Aslam, resident of Thopal, Tehsil Batote, District Ramban.
The SDM shall submit his report within a week positively, the order issued by District Magistrate Ramban said.
Official sources informed that the deceased along with two others was arrested in connection with a theft case on Saturday.
They said on Monday afternoon, Abid developed some medical complications and was taken to CHC Batote for treatment where doctors provided him with some medicine and he was again shifted to Police Station Batote.
Sources further said that on Tuesday morning, he again informed cops that he was feeling discomfort and he was again brought to CHC Batote by cops, where he was admitted by the doctors. Meanwhile, relatives of the trio arrested in the theft case had applied for bail in a local Court and all the accused including Abid were released on bail on Tuesday afternoon.
However, Abid was admitted at CHC Batote and he died there at around 6 pm. Talking to reporters, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Kulbir Singh said on a written complaint few days back regarding theft, they registered a case at Police Station Batote and the deceased along with two others were rounded up for questioning and they admitted committing the crime and on their disclosure the stolen items were recovered and they were formally arrested on February 17.
SSP Ramban informed that all the three accused including the deceased were granted bail by the Court but Abid remained at CHC, Batote as he was admitted there and he died there at around 6 pm on Tuesday. The SSP also said that an inquest proceeding was incited to ascertain the circumstances leading to death of Abid. Post-mortem of the deceased was conducted by board of doctors and after legal formalities at District Hospital Ramban, body of the deceased was handed over to his family members.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Aslam, father of the deceased has demanded an inquiry into the death of his son and claimed that his son was bailed out on Tuesday evening and within half an hour he died at CHC Batote.
