JAMMU, Feb 23: Former Chief Secretary and president Durga Nag Trust, Vaijay Bakaya today said that the Yagnopavit Sanskar is sacred sanskars among Kashmiri Pandits and not only boys but this Sanskar can also be performed by girls.
Speaking at a Samohik Yagnopavit ceremony organised by Amar Balidan Trust (ABT) at Swami Kral Bub Ashram Bantalab here, he said the social organizations who took keen interest in performing Samohik Yagnopavit are doing a yeoman’s service to community after the mass exodus of Pandits from Kashmir.
On the occasion Yagnopavit ceremony of six Hindu boys was performed by the ABT led by A K Raina former Director Education. Large number of devotees attended the programme and they were served prashad.
G L Raina , BJP spokesman and ex MLC said that the well knit social fabric of the community was eroded after the mass exodus in 1989-90 and gave credit to Dharmic and social organizations in connecting the community to its roots. Swami Kumar Ji of Ghari, Udhampur Ashram and Swami Kumar Ji of Geeta Satsang Ashram, Muthi blessed the boys while M L Malla a senior KP leader threw light on the significance of Yagnopavit ceremony in Sanatan Dharma.
The function was graced by BJP general secretary, Ashok Koul, ex District and Session Judge B L Saraf, Roshan Lal Pandita, chairman PNBMT and its other members, R K Raina, ex president, ASKPC, K K Khosa, president K P Sabha, B L Bhagati its general secretary, Kuldeep Raina president, Kheerbhawani Manjgam, M K Jalali, president Sharika Peeth,S K Koul, ex Dy Commissioner, M K Yogi social activist.
The members of ABT who participated were S K Bhat, P L Sudeshi, Man Mohan, Ram Krishan, R L Wali, Ashok Ji besides its Advisory Committee, A K Braru, Bal Krishan Sanyasi, Satish Kissu, T K Jagyasoo, B L Wantoo and Dr Ramesh Razdan.
