Balbir asks handicapped people to avail welfare schemes

JAMMU, Oct 14: Balbir Ram Rattan, Vice Chairperson of the Corporation today asked the handicapped people to avail maximum benefits of various schemes meant for their socio-economic upliftment.
He said that the Corporation has many schemes for the welfare of handicapped, SCs, STs and BCs people and also for Notified National Minorities and Safai Karamcharis categories. He stressed up the target group people to not sit idle and become burden on their parents but to take a decision of making them self dependent and support their families.
The Vice Chairperson also elaborated on the schemes run by the Corporation in collaboration with the Apex Corporations and the State Government for disabled persons.
He was speaking during a camp organized at Akhnoor to create awareness about schemes implemented by J&K SC, ST & BC Development Corporation for economic empowerment of persons having physical disabilities.
MLA Akhnoor, Rajeev Sharma, who also graced the occasion, emphasized on the importance of these schemes to the participants. In his address, he stressed upon the masses to avail maximum benefits of various schemes of the Corporation to improve their financial position by establishing income generating units. He asked the people to not become victims in the hands of middlemen, who may exploit them and impressed upon them to directly approach the corporation for availing any scheme. He appreciated initiative and role of the Vice Chairperson and other officials in making the public aware about the financial assistance provided in the form of loan.
Mohd Iqbal Kataria, Manager Projects, brought various features of the scheme like eligibility criteria, procedure for availing loan assistance, mode of payment and recovery of loans for the knowledge of the participants. Joginder Pal Atri, District Manager, Jammu, highlighted the process and documentations required for availing loans under handicapped category.
During the awareness camp, local participants were provided printed material about various schemes, besides making available application forms to them for availing loans.
