JAMMU, Mar 9: Further expanding his field of activities and services towards weaker sections of the society, Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes & Backward Classes Development Corporation, Vice Chairperson, Balbir Ram Rattan, gave Rs 31000 to mother of a Scheduled Caste girl, Priya Malhotra of Preet Nagar, Digiana, Jammu, to solminize her marriage.
The amount was given to her in presence of her grand uncle Pawan Kumar. The father of the girl has expired and the mother was feeling it very difficult to arrange for the marriage of her daughter.
Balbir Ram Rattan collected this money from his colleagues in order to help the girl belonging to SC community and the contribution made was handed over to her mother at Vice Chairperson’s office, here.
While talking to the mother and grand uncle of the girl, Balbir Ram Rattan said that Jammu and Kashmir SC, ST, BC Development Corporation provides financial assistance to the unemployed members of the weaker sections for setting up of earning units and there is no such provision of helping any one for marriage. However, seeing the plight of the family, which was in distress as it was unable to solemnize the marriage of the girl so he approached some of his colleagues to come forward to help the family at this hour of need.
“This amount of Rs 31000 has been contributed by my colleagues from their own pockets, which is a very noble cause and others should take inspiration from such a gesture”, Balbir said and added that extending a helping hand to someone who is poor and needy, is not less than worship of God. He urged the people who are well off to come forward and help such needy people around them.
