JAMMU, June 27: Former Minister and MLA Raipur Domana, Bali Bhagat today distributed free LPG connections among the BPL families of his constituency at two separate functions organized by Bharat Petroleum at village Garhi and Subash Nagar.
During these functions over 100 free gas connections were distributed among the beneficiaries.
Addressing the functions, Bali Bhagat said that Ujjwala was launched one and half year back with the aim of providing cooking gas facilities to women of poor families who otherwise were becoming victims of respiratory diseases by cooking meals in traditional kitchens using wood and charcoal.
He said switching to LPG gives women the opportunity to best use their time, a chance that may help them to take better advantage of development opportunities and empower themselves. The scheme envisaged to provide eight crore free LPG connections to poor families across the country in five years, he added.
Ex district president, BJP Rural Jammu, Sukhdev Singh Jamwal, Sarpanch Shamsher Singh, Joginder Singh Chib, Ved Parkash Sharma, Jagir Singh and other prominent people were present on the occasion.
