JAMMU, Jan 8: Moving towards fulfilling the MCI requirements, Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat dedicated new 32-bedded recovery ward and facility of common room for doctors (boys & girls) in hospital canteen of Government Medical College here today.
Constructed at an estimated cost of rupees one crore, the recovery ward will facilitate the extra-ordinary rush of patients of Ortho, Surgery and Neurology units. Similarly, the common room facility has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 20 lakh. Both these facilities were requirements of MCI and the authorities have fulfilled these.
Minister of State for Health & Medical Education, Asiea Naqash, MLA Jammu West, Sat Sharma were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Health Minister said that it is endeavour of the BJP-PDP Government to ensure better infrastructural facilities in the health institutions across the State, adding that majority of population in Jammu and Kashmir is dependent on the Government health sector and efforts have been stepped up to improve the overall health scenario. He further said that GMCJ being premier tertiary healthcare centre in the entire Jammu region caters the huge rush of patients, especially in the winter due to Darbar Move when floating population increases and the Government has been paying focused attention to plug all gaps to ensure improved facilities to the patients in this prominent health institution.
Bali said that after the enhancement of 50 medical seats in GMCJ last year, the MCI during its inspection had pointed out certain deficiencies in accommodation and other infrastructural facilities. These also included a dedicated recovery ward, common room facility for doctors (males & females) in doctors’ canteen and a High Dependency Ward for the critical patients. He said the two requirements have been fulfilled and the third one viz; High Dependency Ward will be set up soon for which an amount of Rs. 1.17 crore has been sanctioned.
Principal GMC, Dr. Sunanda Raina, Registrar Academics, Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Dara Singh, besides several HoDs, faculty members and Medical Superintendents of Associated Hospitals were also present on the occasion.
