Ballot Paper revival

Sir,
The Supreme Court’s rejection of the plea to revert to ballot paper voting underscores the need to embrace technological advancements while addressing systemic electoral issues.
EVMs, despite skepticism, have significantly reduced challenges like tampering and delays prevalent in the ballot paper era. The introduction of VVPATs further ensures transparency and accountability.
Reverting to paper ballots would be a step backward, ignoring the logistical inefficiencies and malpractices associated with traditional methods. Instead, the focus should shift to tackling systemic problems like voter inducements and enhancing public trust in EVMs through rigorous audits and transparent communication.
Emerging technologies like blockchain-based voting systems and biometric authentication offer promising solutions to strengthen electoral integrity. Meanwhile, stricter enforcement of laws and advanced surveillance can curb election malpractices. India’s electoral process must evolve with time, blending technology and trust to uphold the spirit of democracy.
