Balti culture festival concludes

LEH, Aug 6: Two days Balti culture festival jointly organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) Leh and Kargil concluded.
A large number of artists from Culture Academy Leh and Kargil participated in the festival. Mehfil-e-Mushaira, traditional horse polo match, famous Turtuk sword dance, Balti folk song and dance and popular Shondol dance were part of the festival.
Hill Council Executive Councillor for Animal Husbandry Mumtaz Hussain while inaugurating the festival said that in the modern era it is great challenge to preserve and promote the culture and tradition and such culture festival will encourage the region to preserve and promote their culture. Assuring Hill Council support to the region in future he also informed that under PMDP Scheme Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned to develop tourism infrastructure in Turtuk region.
Area Councillor Ghulam Mehdi said that such festival not only helps in promoting and preserving Balti culture but also improve the lifestyle of people by attracting more tourists in the region.
SDM Nobra Sonam Norboo said that such festival will help to grow the tourism in the region and he also appealed to the tourist to spread message about Balti rich culture so that many visitors can come and contribute in the development and prosperity of the region.
Culture Academy Leh Special Officer Tsewang Paljor said that festival organized to promote and preserve Balti Culture as Balti of Ladakh has unique culture and tradition. Kargil Culture Academy Special Officer Nazir Hussian said that academy made an effort to provide common platform to Leh and Kargil to promote their rich culture. He also assured to organize such festival annually in the region.
Area Nambardar Abdul Mazjid and SDM Kharu Ghulma Mohammad also expressed their views.
A large number of Indian and foreign tourists also took part in the festival.
