Balwant gets additional charge of Director ICCR Kashmir

JAMMU, Sept 13: Balwant Thakur, Regional Director ICCR Jammu has been given additional charge of Regional Director of ICCR Kashmir and henceforth he will be looking after both the regional centres of ICCR, based in Jammu and Srinagar.
Balwant Thakur has a vast experience of professionally handling arts, culture, languages, literature and creative activities. He also has the credit of having worked as Secretary of J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages in the crucial times between 1995 and 2003. Conferred with highest Indian honour in performing arts, Balwant Thakur has also been awarded Padamshree for his life-time contribution for the promotion of Art and Culture.
Regional Centre of ICCR in Jammu was started in May, 2012 whereas the Kashmir Centre of ICCR was inaugurated in October, 2012. The objectives are to actively participate in the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes pertaining to India’s external cultural relations to foster and strengthen cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and other countries to promote cultural exchanges with other countries and people; and to develop relations with nations.
Prior to the coming of ICCR in Jammu, people out here never had the occasion to witness International Cultural presentations and were never exposed to world cultural scene. But after the coming of ICCR in Jammu, Jammuites have been fortunate to witness the mind-blowing performances and vibrant culture of Zambia, Republic of Laos, Poland, Spain, Germany, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
