PORT LOUIS (Mauritius), Oct 14: Global Rainbow Foundation, Mauritius honoured Balwant Thakur, Cultural Diplomat of India to Mauritius heading Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix at Foundation Headquarters in Petit Raffray, Mauritius.
The honour was conferred by Dr. Armogum Parsuramen, the former Director of UNESCO, Paris and Minister of Education, Arts, Culture and Science Republic of Mauritius.
On this occasion a citation was also read glorifying global contribution of Balwant Thakur in enriching relations of India with rest of world through cultural initiatives.
Thakur recently joined as head of World’s biggest Cultural Centre of India Abroad based in Phoenix after playing a praiseworthy inning in Johannesburg as Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa.
Conferred with Padamshree and the highest Indian honour in performing arts, he has many prestigious honours of world acclaim to his credit.
A handout stated that within a short span of time Thakur revolutionized the cultural scene of Mauritius through his innovative ways.
Number of events from India which were restricted to two or three a month, have witnessed a record upsurge to 15 a month now. Many new programmes have been introduced which are not only novice to Mauritius but are also being appreciated so overwhelmingly that majority are being repeated on public demand.
