PORT LOUIS (Mauritius), Dec 13: Cultural Diplomat of India to Mauritius, Balwant Thakur who is also heading world’s biggest cultural Centre as Director was honoured here today for the successful holding of ‘Jashn-E- Dosti’ (Festival of Friendship) organized by High Commission of India in association with Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Government of Republic of Mauritius in commemoration with the celebrations of 75th anniversary of India-Mauritius diplomatic relations.
It may be recalled that a 7 day India and Mauritius festival of culture featuring over 500 artists was held at Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix, Mauritius which was conceptualized, designed and executed by Balwant Thakur.
The festival was inaugurated by President of Republic of Mauritius, Prithivirajsingh Roopun in the presence of Avinash Teeluck, Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage and High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, K. Nandini Singla.
Balwant Thakur’s highly acclaimed play ‘Aap Humare Hain Kaun’ was also featured in French, Creole, English and Hindi in this event.
Other highlights of this festival remained ‘Colours of India’, ‘Colours of Mauritius’ and ‘Colours of Bollywood’.
On the day of culmination Acting Foreign Minister Mahen Seeruttun who is also the Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance honoured Balwant Thakur for bringing two nations together through highly magnificent cultural initiatives.
