PORT LOUIS (MAURITIUS), Feb 3: Balwant Thakur- the cultural diplomat of India to Mauritius who is currently heading world’s biggest cultural centre here, launched the book entitled ‘Bollywood and its global impact’ by Dr Ouma Seebaluck at the Mauritius Gymkhana Club, Vacoas.
On the occasion, Balwant Thakur said that Bollywood is India’s magical soft power and this book is a strong endorsement of this fact- a robust and compelling case that demonstrates the vast extent to which Bollywood has contributed to advancing the image, reputation and brand of Republic of India.
“Bollywood has contributed immensely in taking Hindi, our culture, our ethos, and the way of Indian life every home globally,” he said and shared many of his experiences having witnessed the magic of Bollywood outside India, particularly in Russia, Central Asian countries, China, Germany, UK, Italy, USA and Middle East where people are much aware about India, its traditions and culture courtesy Bollywood.
The author of the book ‘Bollywood and its global impact’, Dr Ouma Seebaluck is a former top executive of Air Mauritius. During her postings in England, Far East and South East Asia, India, Pakistan, Italy, Malta, Cyprus, Greece and Israel, she closely observed the impact and influence of Bollywood in these countries and took the initiative to write this important book.
‘Bollywood and its global impact’ expressively captures the multifaceted phenomenon and global force that is Bollywood. The book successfully highlights the cultural mores, values, and traditions of India, while at the same time critically chronicling how Hindi film industry has managed to project the diverse cultural and social fabric of India to millions world over. The book gives a convincing account of the evolution and transformational change that Bollywood has brought about to India’s global image.
