Balwant Thakur takes over as Director IGCIC

PORT LOUIS (Mauritius), June 21: Eminent theatre director of India, Balwant Thakur today took over the world’s biggest cultural centre of India abroad as Director.
Popularly known as Indira Gandhi Centre of Indian Culture (IGCIC), it is based in Port Louis, Mauritius. Prior to this, Balwant Thakur served as the Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa and headed the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre based in the city of Johannesburg.
Known as the magic man of theatre and decorated with Padamshree and the highest Indian honour in performing arts, Balwant Thakur has also the credit of having held various prestigious cultural positions including the Secretary Art, Culture and Languages Jammu & Kashmir and Regional Director of the ICCR Centres of Jammu and Srinagar.
The IGCIC at Phoenix, Port Louis promotes bilateral cultural linkages and awareness between India and Mauritius by organizing cultural programmes, cultural seminars, workshops and trainings engaging India based great masters, professionals and trainers for Yoga, Hindi, & Sanskrit and in performing Arts such as; Hindustani Classical Vocal Music, Tabla and Kathak dance.
