Ban Alcohol

Sir,
The Indian constitution which bases itself upon the idea of social justice, lately has turned into a mere rhetoric. The increasing scourge of alcoholism within the society is a cause of concern for all of us. Jammu and Kashmir, too ,has been facing this menace. Young children and teenagers are being addicted to alcohol and drugs. Sadly enough, a section of Films and TV promote such behaviour whereby they consider drinking akin to high social status. But, the entailing moral degradation is worrisome.
Alcohol consumption is not a menace for that single individual only but for the society as a whole. Giving anomalous references of ‘Somrasa’, a drink savoured by the Devas, from Hindu texts adds further to the menace. Increasing crime rates, physical malfunctioning etc. are some of it’s dastardly consequences. Government, therefore must ban all alcoholic items in J&K. Its the need of the hour to get rid of such a habit, which brings nothing, except disease and burden.
Gujarat and Bihar are two shining examples in front of us. J&K can take a cue from them, whereby they have, by and large, made their society alcohol free. No doubt, it comes with a moral hazard but it’s not insurmountable. The Constitutional laws draw their powers from the societal morality, hence every step must to be taken to enforce such regulations which toe the line of maximum citizens.
