Srinagar, Mar 30: Authorities in north Kashmir’s Sopore have imposed a ban on the sale and use of firecrackers, as well as the use of loudspeakers by street vendors, citing concerns over environmental pollution, public safety, and health hazards.
According to an order issued by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Sopore, the decision was taken in view of the “growing concern” over the adverse effects of firecrackers.
“The sale, purchase, and use of all types of firecrackers or any similar items are prohibited within the territorial limits of Sub-District Sopore,” the order read.
It stressed that any person found violating these directions by selling, purchasing, or using firecrackers shall be liable to a fine/ confiscation of firecrackers, as deemed appropriate under relevant law.
The order also restricts the use of loudspeakers by vendors, particularly near religious institutions, hospitals, Government offices and congested market areas.
Tehsildars, along with their police counterparts, have been directed to enforce the ban through regular inspections and awareness campaigns. The order will remain in force for two months from the date of issuance or until further directives are issued.
