SAMBA, July 9: The Association of Owners of Stone Crushers, Jammu today said that proprietors of stone crushers are facing hardships due to non availability of raw materials since, November 2019 after the imposition of ban by Geology and Mining Department for excavation of construction material from rivers and quarries in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
Addressed a press conference under the leadership of Chowdhary Saleem Alam at Sarore Adda, Bari Brahmana, today they said due to this ban lakhs of laborers, skilled as well as unskilled have become idle. The Government was requested for some relaxation to stone crusher unit industry which is at the verge of closure, but needless to say no action was taken. “We, however compliment Altaf Bukhari, president Apni Party who has taken the issue with Government and got some relaxation for issuance of short term permits to stone crushers through Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) on July 7.
They said the Chief Secretary, B.V.R Subramanyam while chairing a meeting to take stock of issues being faced in mining of construction materials has recommended that the frame work for extraction procedure under local self governance mechanism along with sharing of revenue between Geology and Mining Department and Panchayati Raj Institution may also be worked out. Similarly, Geology and Mining Department was intimated to forward mining projects of 2nd phase auction for environmental clearance.
They also highlighting the grievances of persons employed with the Stone crusher industry. They added that extraction of minerals should be started without any delay on the pattern of other states.
Among other those present Dev Chouban, Vijay Sharma, Shesh Paul (Sarpanch) ,Manesh Wani, Bhanu Pratap Singh, Mehmood Khan ,Shakeel Malik, Jagi Singh andJagbir Singh Jamwal.
