KISHTWAR, Mar 10: A complete shutdown was observed in the township here today to protest the killing of a 45-year-old hotelier even as a Special Investigation Team (SIT) rounded up several people including women for questioning.
As per police sources, Ishtiyaq Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Rasool Dar, a resident of Semna Colony, was fatally shot in the head by unidentified assailants here last night near Islamia Faridiya School, sparking widespread protests from all quarters.

A strike was observed in the town and adjoining areas to mourn Dar’s death. The shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed while work in the local court was hit due to the absence of lawyers.
Immediately after the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Abrar Ahmad Choudhary constituted a four-member SIT to probe the incident.
The SIT, headed by an Additional Superintendent of Police Perbeet Singh Parihar, today rounded up several people including some women, for questioning in connection with the murder.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his family for last rites this morning. Thousands of people from all caste, creed and religious and senior officers from civil administratioin and police department took took part in the funeral procession of the deceased. Ishtiaq was laid to rest at main grave yard here in the evening.
A large number of police personnel were deployed in the town to maintain law and order.
A special team from the Forensic Science Laboratory in Jammu also reached the town today morning to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the youth festival of Army scheduled for today was also cancelled due to prevailing situation.
