KARGIL, Mar 13: All the business establishments here remained closed for the third consecutive day on the call of Merchant Association.
Due to closure of business establishments, the tenants from far flung areas of district, who are residing in rented accommodations in main town are facing shortage of essential commodities and have been forced to flee back to their homes.
General Secretary of Merchant Association Kargil, Mohammad Yaseen said that they had put their demand for canceling the parking facility near their shops in the market as it is affecting their business. He added that there is no footpath on the 15 feet road in the market due to which people have to face lots of difficulties during purchasing, which in turn becomes the problem of the merchants.
On asking about their consent during the first phase of making parking in town, Yaseen informed that they had only asked to allow customers to stop the vehicles in town for 10 to 30 minutes which has now became a problem.
He further said that now the Government is going for tendering the parking places which will become a problem for them, adding that the association approached Deputy Commissioner Kargil and CEC in this matter and will continue their strike till their demands are fulfilled.
He told that Islamia School Kargil, IKMT, Taxi Union, Congress Party and others has extended their support for the cause of the Merchant Association.
District Congress Committee Kargil in a letter written to Deputy Commissioner Kargil requested him to reconsider the floating of tenders regarding allocation of parking space to private contractors in the market and keep the decision in abeyance until a proper solution is found.
Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil Haji Hanifa Jan has called a meeting of all concerned tomorrow along with Merchant Association and hoped that they will come up with a solution.
