Bandh, protest against Tehsildar Hiranagar

KATHUA, Oct 1: The Bar members suspended their court work while the people held protest demonstration against Tehsildar Hiranagar for his alleged anti-people attitude and demanded his immediate transfer.
The market in Hiranagar town also remained closed for half day as a mark of protest against Tehsildar Subash Dogra who has stopped the work of a community hall at a piece of village common land (Gha Charai) near Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Hiranagar.
A large number of people led by senior lawyer Yash Pal Sharma including some Sarpanchs and Panchs moved to the office of Tehsildar and held strong protest demonstration against him. They alleged that Tehsildar stopped the work on a piece of land given to public with the approval of DC Kathua for the construction of a community hall on 9 kanal land for which funds have been provided by Congress MLC Subash Gupta. They said on the directions of ACD Kathua, the BDO concerned started work of leveling land and raising compound wall but the Tehsildar along with his staff reached the spot and stopped the work. After staging protest for 2-3 hours, the protesters dispersed.
Tehsildar Hiranagar, Mr Dogra when contacted said that status of the land was `Ghas Charai’, the Revenue Department has forwarded the case to the Administrative Department for changing the status of land and handing over for the public purpose. He said that after the approval from Cabinet, the land will be transferred for this purpose. “I am never against the construction of this community hall for public. I have just asked the people to wait for some time till the file is returned from the Revenue authorities in Secretariat”, Mr Dogra claimed.
