JAMMU, Apr 28: Three persons including a bank looter were arrested with contraband by Janipur and Nowabad Police, while one another person was arrested by Chanderkote Police for cultivating opium and poppy.
As per police sources, on reliable information, on specific information, a team from Police Station Janipur led by SHO Inspector Nayat Ali laid a naka in Lower Roop Nagar area and intercepted a person, who was moving suspiciously.
During checking, police team recovered 10 grams heroin from the possession of the person and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Devinder Singh alias Roshu, son of Padham Singh, a resident of Lower Roop Nagar.
He was involved in a bank dacoity and a case under FIR Number 111/19 under Sections 392 and 341 RPC was registered against him at Police Station Nowshera and challan in the case has also been produced. He was also involved in a theft of Rs 4 lakh and a case also stands registered against him at Police Station Nowshera.
A fresh case under FIR Number 45/2021 under Section 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Janipur and investigation started to ascertain the names of other persons involved in this illegal trade.
The overall arrest and recovery was made under the supervision of SDPO West Rahul Nagar.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Station Nowabad led by SHO Inspector Deepak Jasrotia laid a naka at Chand Nagar and intercepted a Tavera car bearing registration number JK03C-2465.
During checking, police team recovered 450 grams cannabis and Rs 30,000 cash from the possession of one person and arrested them.
The arrested person was identified as Bashir Ahmed Bhat, son of Rashid Bhat of Sail Chersoo Awantipora District Pulwama.
A case under FIR Number 79/2021 under Section 8/20/25 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Nowabad and investigation started.
Meanwhile, the similar team from Police Station Nowabad during investigation into a case registered under FIR Number 76/2021 under Section 8/21/22 NDPS arrested a drug peddler along with 2 grams heroin.
The arrested person was identified as Bikram Singh, son of Uttam Singh of Anand Nagar Bohri District Jammu. An auto was also seized.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
In another incident, a team from Police Station Chanderkote led by SHO Inspector Vijay Singh Choudhary and assisted by PSI Sunil Kumar arrested a man for cultivating opium and poppy on his private land at Dhalwas.
The arrested accused has been identified as Jamyat Ali, son of Mir Baz, a resident of Dhalwas, District Ramban.
The entire operation was conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrate 1st Class Chanderkote Saif-Ullah Shah and under the direct supervision of Additional SP Ramban Rajni Sharma and SSP Ramban PD Nitya.
On the direction of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, the opium and poppy cultivation was destroyed immediately and a case under FIR Number 48/2021 under Section 8/18 NDPS Act has been registered against the accused person at Police Station Chanderkote and investigation started.
