Bank unions threaten strike again; week long disruption likely before

NEW DELHI, Dec 30:  Bank employees have threaten to go on strike on January 7,2015 and cripple the banking operations for almost a week between January 21 and 27 in protest against delay in settlement of their wage demand.
In less than two months since November 12 ,employees of the Public Sector Banks with support from some of the private sector banks have already gone on strike twice seeking a wage hike.    The strike notice has been sent by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) to the individual bank management which have cautioned their customers that the proposed strike may hamper the normal banking operations.
The UFBU has also warned that they would resort to a four-day strike between January 21 to 24. With January 25 been Sunday and January 26 as Republic Day it would almost be that the banking operations would remain crippled.
“United Bank of India is in receipt of a communication dated December 23, 2014 from IBA informing about a notice dated December 22, 2014 served by the convener,UFBU, informing to go on All India Bank Strikes on January 7, 2015 and January 21 to 24, 2015 on demand of immediate settlement of wage revision and related matters”, the bank said in a filing to the stock exchanges.
Similar notices have been given to other banks by UFBU.    After striking work on November 12, the banks resorted to relay strike between December 2-5 on the same issue. (AGENCIES)
