Banks employees, officers on strike tomorrow

JAMMU, Aug 31: The employees and officers of all the banks will observe one day strike on September 2 in support of the call given by the Central Trade Unions and various independent trade union/federations in the country regarding amendment in Labour Laws.
This was stated by Arun Kumar Gupta, general secretary, Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation (JPBEF), in a handout issued here today.
He added that all the employees and officers of different Organizations including AIBEA, AIBOA, BEFI, INBOC and INBEF of all Banks will be on strike on September 2.
“We are opposing the increasing attacks on the workers and trade unions on their rights and privileges and the encouragement and concessions being extended to the employers in country. There are open attempts to amend the various Labour Laws in favour of the employers and to the detriment of the workers. The neo-liberal economic policies are only aggravating the problems of the workers and common masses”, he stated.
He further disclosed that during the recently held 46th Session of the Indian Labour Conference at Delhi, it was clear that the Government would like to proceed on its agenda to amend the Labour Laws without any proper consultation with the trade unions.
Hence it is necessary and imperative to join the general trade union movement and register our protest against these anti-worker policies of the Government. We call upon all our members to make the strike a grand success.
