Bansal offers to resign over railway board bribery case

NEW DELHI :  Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal  today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and offered to  resign over the railway board bribery case in which his  nephew has been arrested.
Mr Bansal met the Prime Minister at his residence this afternoon
and offered to resign from the post, sources said.
A meeting of the Congress is likely to be held this  evening to discuss the programme.
The CBI has arrested three people including Railway  Minister’s nephew and a Railway Board member in connection  with a bribe case.
A sum of Rs 90 lakh was allegedly paid as an installment of bribe for promotion of Mahesh Kumar.
Some of the arrests were made in Chandigarh early  this morning after long questioning.
The CBI also conducted raids at several locations in connection with the case.
“Initial demand was for about Rs 10 crore which was brought down to Rs 2 crore of which part payment  of Rs 90 lakh was made last evening,” the CBI  official added.
