Bansal seeks upgradation of Jammu as Division, more trains

JAMMU, Oct 31: Dr Sanjay Bansal, Zonal Board Member Northern Railways (Government of India) has written a letter to the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and put forth some demands in front of him.
In his letter, Dr Bansal has demanded to upgrade the Jammu Sub Division, which currently comes under Firozpur Division, into Jammu Division as the Railway network in J and K has spread upto Kashmir. The Division office should preferably be in Jammu because most of the Government offices are operating from here, he added.
Dr Bansal also stressed for urgently setting up Inland Container Depot (ICD)/ Dry Port in Jammu, especially in Bari Brahmana Industrial Area as all the major industry is situated there. It’s the need of the hour as our Prime Minister is trying to boost the exports and in order to achieve the target and to compete with other States, we need a Dry Port, he explained.
Also seeking start of second train from Jammu to Haridwar daily and increase in the frequency of Katra-Kalika Express between Jammu and Chandigarh, Dr Bansal said that the same was required keeping in view the heavy rush of passengers.
“Currently, Katra Kalika Express run from Jammu to Chandigarh twice a week but it’s insufficient for the needs of people as there are too many patients who require check- ups in PGI Chandigarh and there are many students who study there so it’s necessary to increase the frequency from twice a week to daily,” he said in the letter and also demanded that a train should be started in the name of Maharaja Agrasen because the sentiments of 20 crore Bhartiya Agrawal community.
